Now he’s done it…

Retired Milwaukee Archbishop Rembert Weakland has a book coming out next month, A Pilgrim in a Pilgrim Church: Memoirs of a Catholic Archbishop, but evidently that’s not all that’s coming out!!!

Former Catholic head of Milwaukee admits he’s gay

(And yes, ladies and gents, that’s the actual title of the article. The drama! I can just hear the ominous “duh, duh, DUH…” music…)

Oh dear, certain Milwaukee talk radio types mentioned here previously are going to be all over this. My opinion? Good for him. He’s been a trailblazer throughout his episcopal (small “e”) career, and he’s obviously going to continue. Let’s talk about how many priests are gay, and in a church that has a ridiculous stance on homosexuality. Maybe this will help? I dunno, but I can’t wait to read the book…

  1. Mike Miller said,

Though I never met him except passing him once in a church hallway (and at Dominican masses, if that counts), I always liked him and was dismayed at the circumstances of his resignation. I rolled my eyes a little bit when Archbishop Dolan arrived and started talking about sports teams, as if to send a weakly coded message of reassurance. Can’t wait to read the book.
